At atmo, we've built a core AI product at the intersection of agricultural transition and green finance. As an early-stage company moving from first rollout to scale, we're looking for a hands-on Founding Engineer to join our founding team and help build the AI backbone of our product.

Over the past year, we've deliberately evolved from a pure data product into an AI-first platform. AI is now central to everything we do - from ingesting messy, real-world agricultural data to unlocking new financing flows for sustainable farming. We're looking for someone who wants to get hands-on: building and managing the AI agents that power the product, and working closely with our CSO to turn science models into shipped features.

About atmo

atmo is building the infrastructure for financing the transition of agriculture.

Agriculture is facing massive pressure to adapt - from climate change and rising input costs to new technologies and changing market requirements. Yet farmers and their financing partners often lack the data, tools and business cases needed to make the right investment decisions.

atmo is an AI-powered Agriculture Finance OS that brings farm, climate and financial data together to turn complex agricultural transition investments into clear, bankable business cases. Our platform helps farmers identify profitable transition opportunities, assess ROI and financing needs, access relevant solution providers and generate bank-ready financing reports. For banks and other financial institutions, atmo provides the data and decision intelligence needed to confidently finance the next generation of agricultural investments.

We work across the agricultural ecosystem, including farmers, banks, solution providers and food companies, and are already active in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, with partnerships and pilots across leading financial and agricultural organisations.

Founded in Berlin in 2023, atmo is backed by leading investors, accelerators and non-dilutive funding programmes. We are a lean, ambitious team combining deep expertise in agriculture, finance, climate science, AI and B2B SaaS - with the goal of making agricultural transition investable at scale.

Tasks

What you'll do

Build, run and continuously improve the LLM pipelines at the heart of atmo's product - classifying farm records, soil samples and financial statements, extracting structured data from them, and generating bank-ready reports - from prompting and orchestration to evaluation and monitoring

Own the platform end-to-end: a Python/FastAPI backend, Next.js web apps and the AWS infrastructure they run on

Partner closely with our CSO on the scientific engine, defining the interface between science and product and turning new models into production-ready features

Make AI outputs trustworthy: evaluations, guardrails and clear provenance, so every number in a financing case can be traced back to its source

Ship fast and iterate constantly, using modern AI tooling to move with a small, high-leverage team

Requirements

What we're looking for

Hands-on builder - you'd rather be in the codebase than in a meeting

Strong Python backend depth (FastAPI or similar, SQL, background jobs), comfortable across the stack in TypeScript/Next.js and owning infrastructure on AWS

Practical experience running LLM-based systems in production, not just prototypes: structured extraction, evaluation, cost and latency, handling failures gracefully

Comfortable working directly with scientific/domain experts, like our CSO, to turn models into shipped features

Fast-paced, get-it-done mindset - thrives in ambiguity and on a lean team, and takes ownership of technical decisions, not just tickets

Mission-aligned: genuine interest in climate, sustainable agriculture, and green finance

Bonus: exposure to fintech, agritech, or applied climate/agricultural science; German helps, as much of our farm data is German

Benefits

Why atmo

Building at atmo means shaping both the technology and the science behind it, side by side with the founding team. This role gives you the chance to:

Own the AI and data layer of a real climate-impact product, with real farmers and banks on the other end

Work side by side with the founding team and our CSO, shaping both product and science

A startup-stage compensation package with meaningful equity and substantial ownership from day oneSmall team (5 FTE), real impact, no layers

📍 Location: Hybrid, with a preference for London / Berlin
🌱 Womxn are encouraged to apply

If you're excited to build the AI and systems behind real climate and finance impact - we'd love to hear from you.

Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
