The platform combines a modular billing engine, low-level energy-market communication protocols, and a full accounting ledger — delivered as a headless, API-first layer that enables hardware companies and energy providers to launch dynamic electricity plans rapidly.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em">As a Backend Engineer, you will work across highly complex, distributed systems that power real-time electricity pricing, billing, and market integrations. This is a high-ownership role for engineers who love designing for scale and operating with autonomy in a fast-moving environment.</p><h3>What You'll Do</h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Solve for complexity through design</strong> — Architect clean, maintainable solutions to inherently hard infrastructure problems in energy billing and market communication.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Scale the core</strong> — Contribute to scalable, reliable backend services that handle dynamic pricing, billing flows, and ledger operations at volume.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Bias for action</strong> — Move quickly and decisively; ship meaningful work and iterate with purpose.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Raise the bar</strong> — Uphold and improve engineering standards through code review, documentation, and thoughtful system design.</p></li></ul><h3>What We're Looking For</h3><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Required:</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">3–10+ years of backend engineering experience</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Proficiency in <strong>TypeScript (Node.js)</strong> with a strong grasp of asynchronous programming</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Hands-on experience with <strong>PostgreSQL</strong> and an ORM (experience with Drizzle is a plus)</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with <strong>Next.js</strong>, including API routes or server components used for backend services</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Familiarity with <strong>distributed systems</strong> concepts and designing scalable, maintainable core services</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience integrating <strong>Stripe payments</strong> and related billing flows</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Strong written and verbal communication skills in English</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Ownership mindset and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Willingness to work <strong>on-site in Berlin, Germany</strong></p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Nice to Have:</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Temporal)</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with lightweight HTTP frameworks (e.g., Hono)</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Background in energy, utilities, fintech, or similarly regulated/complex domains</p></li></ul><h3>Tech Stack</h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Languages & Frameworks:</strong> TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, Hono</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Database:</strong> PostgreSQL, Drizzle ORM</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Payments:</strong> Stripe</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Orchestration:</strong> Temporal</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Frontend (context):</strong> Tailwind CSS</p></li></ul><h3>Compensation & Benefits</h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Salary:</strong> €80,000 – €120,000 per year, depending on experience</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Visa sponsorship is available for qualified candidates</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Early-stage equity opportunity at a well-backed pre-seed company</p></li></ul><h3>Location</h3><p style="min-height:1.5em">This is a <strong>full-time, on-site role</strong> based in <strong>Berlin, Germany</strong>.
