Working Student / Werkstudent — Applied AI - Software Engineering

<h2>The Role</h2><p>You’ll help build real products across the software lifecycle: understand the problem → design → implement → release → improve. You’ll take ownership of well-defined tasks and features, with guidance, code reviews, and feedback from experienced engineers.</p><p>You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and design, and join customer conversations to understand requirements and share progress. We value curiosity, systems thinking, and a practical approach to turning ideas into working software.</p><p>You don’t need to know our entire stack. Bring solid foundations, some hands-on experience, and the motivation to learn by building.</p><h2>What You’ll Do</h2><ul><li>Build with AI: use generative tools, work with our reusable components, and help test and evaluate AI-powered features.</li><li>Contribute to engineering decisions: explore solutions, discuss trade-offs with the team, and implement practical approaches.</li><li>Ship useful features: work with product and design to turn requirements into manageable tasks and working software.</li><li>Work across the stack: contribute to services, APIs, data pipelines, and frontends, depending on your strengths and the project.</li><li>Build with quality in mind: write maintainable code, test your changes, and help improve reliability and performance with support from the team.</li><li>Collaborate with clients: join discussions, help clarify requirements, demo your work, and incorporate feedback alongside experienced teammates.</li><li>Communicate clearly: document your work, ask questions early, and keep the team informed about progress and blockers.</li></ul><h2>Required Skills</h2><ul><li>Currently enrolled at a university, ideally in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.</li><li>Practical experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and some familiarity with Node.js and React/Next.js. Personal projects, coursework, internships, and open-source contributions all count.</li><li>Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including how to structure and query data.</li><li>Familiarity with Git, APIs, debugging, and basic testing.</li><li>Interest in how systems fit together and a willingness to think through dependencies and trade-offs.</li><li>Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining your approach and documenting your work.</li><li>Initiative and follow-through: you can make progress on a defined task, use feedback, and ask for support when you need it.</li></ul><h2>Nice to Have</h2><ul><li>Some experience with Python, Rust, or Ruby.</li><li>Familiarity with caching, Redis, or event-driven systems such as Kafka.</li><li>First experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or Cloudflare, especially Workers, Durable Objects, or KV.</li><li>Exposure to Docker, GitHub Actions, or infrastructure as code.</li><li>Experience with AI tools, evals, reusable components, internal tools, or project templates.</li><li>Experience writing short technical specs or documenting design decisions.</li></ul><p>These are useful starting points.
