Worker Rights Resources

General guidance โ€” not legal advice. Consult a licensed lawyer in your destination country for your case.

Your right to a written contract

Every employment relationship abroad should include a signed contract in a language you understand, detailing wages, hours, benefits and termination.

Wages must be paid in full and on time

Employers cannot lawfully withhold wages, charge unlawful deductions, or replace pay with in-kind benefits without your written consent.

Passport confiscation is illegal

No employer or agency may hold your passport. If yours is being withheld, contact your embassy immediately.

Health and safety at work

You have the right to a safe workplace, protective equipment, and to refuse dangerous work without retaliation.

Freedom to change jobs

Restrictions on switching employers vary by visa. Understand your visa's mobility rules before signing.
